What's to be Done?

So, what have we been doing around here?  Well, now that summer is over from the school point of view, let's see what the camera says we've been doing.

Swimming:

The pool is a bike ride away and the kids went there quite a bit during our summer here.  It's a feature loaded place with a lazy river, water slides and lot's of water toys for tots.

They also have many lounge chairs and big umbrellas for moms.  :)  I love me some shade ... for my health's sake.

Concerts:

Besides the community concerts at the nearby park, we've been enjoying a lot of other local music including the Potlatch Fiddle Show.

It's a truly down home event that ended up being a lot of fun, especially the rousing rendition of Orange Blossom Special!  I love a good fiddle show, and am glad to have one here to replace my favorite one in Lewistown.

Picking peaches, makin' jam:

Yep, we went to a nearby U-pick farm for some peach pickin'.  A total novelty for us cold-hardy Montanans!  Down along the Snake River, it's a little hot house micro climate that's warm enough for peaches and nectarines.  They also have pears and apples, so we'll hopefully go again.

On our way there, we spotted this eye catching sculpture:

Whoa!  That's a lot of canoes!  It's pretty impressive.

And speaking of the Snake River, some new friends invited us down to spend the afternoon with them on their boat at the river.  This is a pretty new experience for us, but we had a good time.  Their kayaks were pretty popular with our family - something nice and slow!  :)

Although each of the kids tried a ride on the Seadoo and the tube-pulled-by-the-boat.

Mini-Golfing:

We've tried out the mini golf course a couple times - it's always a good time.

In fact, that's how we decided to spend our last day of summer break.  So, good bye summer 2013!  You've brought us a lot of adventures, changes and new things!  Here's to the coming school year and (maybe!) a milder winter!
